Jeff Bezos is now the richest man in the world with $90 billion-
Jeff Bezos

Jeffrey Preston Bezos is an American technology and retail entrepreneur, investor, computer scientist, and philanthropist, best known as the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Amazon.com, the world's largest online shopping retailer

Jeff Bezos became the richest man in the world Friday morning, after adding nearly $7 billion to his wealth overnight.

With Amazon's share price surging Friday morning after its earnings report, Bezos's wealth shot up to more than $90 billion, according to calculations by CNBC and data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. That put Bezos past Bill Gates to become the richest man in the world.

Gates also added to his fortune Friday morning with the rise in Microsoft stock after its earnings. But his gain of around $550 million put his fortune at $88.5 billion — not enough to stay ahead of Bezos.
It will be a horse race throughout the day, however. If Microsoft goes up more, or if Amazon slips after the stock starts trading, Bezos could fall back to No. 2.

This isn't Bezos' first time as numero uno. He become the richest man on this earth first time in july – but his reign only lasted a day. On July 27, Amazon's share price topped $1,050 and Bezos' paper fortune soared past $90 billion. But after Amazon's share price slipped, Bezos fell back to second place behind.
Bezos initially became the richest person in the world for the first time on Thursday, with a $90.6 billion net worth when markets opened. But Amazon stock dropped from $1,083.31 to $1,046 by the time markets closed, knocking him out of the top spot. Bezos, who owns nearly 17 percent of Amazon stock, ended the day with an $88.7 billion fortune, while Gates finished with an estimated $89.8 billion fortune. For historical context, Bill Gates has held the title of world's richest person for 18 of the past 23 years.
The list of the world's billionaires is kept up by forbes, and the numbers are in constant flux. So, despite the drop, this is likely not Bezos’ last time at the top of the list.
In other opulent news, Facebook shares went up by five percent when markets opened Thursday morning, boosting founder Mark Zuckerberg's net worth by $3.8 billion, making him the planet’s fifth-richest person. He is now worth an estimated $72.7 billion, a record high.
Amancio Ortega, who founded the parent company of Zara, follows Bezos in the No. 3 spot, while investor and business magnate Warren Buffett takes the No. 4 slot.
